 Accommodation
Each equipment suite is equipped with a raised access floor and false ceiling. The
raised floor is laid using 600 x 600mm, laminated vinyl tiles. The floor tiles are
rated for a loading of 12kN/m2 or 4.5kN over 25mm sq. The void beneath the access
floor is 400mm and the height of the suite (access floor to false ceiling) is 2.7m
(minimum). All floors are sealed against water and dust penetration using bitumen
based sealant .
Mains power
The datacenter is supplied with 1500 kVA directly from the National Grid. This is
distributed through the floors to provide a 1KW per Square Metre power loading.
UPS
The datacentre is equipped with two 250 KVA UPS in a cascade configuration supplying
diverse power to all technical areas. The UPS batteries are designed to provide
a minimum of 15 minutes capacity at full building load.
Back up power capability
The Datacenter operates an indefinite period of autonomy. This is achieved via the
use of a UPS system and a diesel generator with an online refuelling capability.
The mains power is backed up by a 950 kVA diesel generator. All site services are
backed up using this generator. The generator has been designed to start up automatically
after a mains failure and operate at full load within 30 seconds from start–up.
There is an on site diesel tank for the backup generator containing 2000 litres
of fuel. This provides enough fuel for 12 hours of continuous running.
Air conditioning
The CHC is fitted with an N+1 redundant DX cooling system providing full environmental
control through the datacentre space. The following environment is maintained in
throughout the centre: Temperature: 22°C ± 2°C Relative humidity: 50% non-condensing
Air filtration: Class EU5
Fire alarm, detection and suppression system
The datacentre is fully protected by a fully automated VESDA fire detection, which
is zoned throughout the building. The system will detect, and indicate early warning
of a possible fire risk. The date centre is fitted with an Argonite gas suppression
for fire extinguishing. This system reduces the oxygen content within the environment,
minimising the damage to equipment and reducing danger to personnel. The Argonite
system is zoned such that differently defined zones are required to detect a fire
before the system is activated. The activation of the first detector will automatically
send a signal to the central security station for attendance of the local Fire Brigade
as well as shut down the air conditioning to stop the dissipation of smoke.
Network resilience and access performance
The datacentre is redundantly connected by diversly routed fibre optic cable to
both our core network backbone and to the London Hosting Centre ensuring diversity
and resiliency is maintained.
The site is manned 24 hours a day for 365 days a year. Providing:
- Controlled access to the site
- Confirmed access to restricted areas
- Validation of visitor and contractor credentials
- Issuing proximity access cards
- Monitoring & control of CCTV systems
- Incident management
CCTV cameras are provided within and around the building to monitor and track critical
datacentre areas. Proximity card readers provided controllable access restrictions
to all areas of the date centre.
All CCTV cameras are fitted to work in low light situations and all external cameras
have night lighting as standard. Full building management is afforded by a TREND
building management sytem, linked to our central network monitoring centre in London.
