International Characters In Domains - IDN

Internationalised Domain Names (IDN) Support in cPanel and Plesk

Both cPanel and Plesk fully support Internationalised Domain Names (IDN), but they cannot accept domain names entered with native international characters (such as Greek, Arabic, Chinese, or accented Latin characters).

Instead, the domain must be added in its Punycode format — the encoded version of an IDN that DNS systems can understand.

How to Convert Your IDN to Punycode

Use an online converter to translate your international domain into Punycode:

https://www.punycoder.com/

Example:

IDN domain: οικοδεσπότης-γάτορ.gr

Punycode: xn----plbucfmli7bcghsvcof1l.gr

You must enter the Punycode version into cPanel or Plesk when adding the domain.

Where to Add the Punycode Domain
  • cPanel: Domains → Create a New Domain → enter xn----plbucfmli7bcghsvcof1l.gr
  • Plesk: Websites & Domains → Add Domain → enter the Punycode name

Once added, your domain will function normally. Visitors can still use the IDN (international character) version, and browsers automatically handle the conversion to Punycode.
